Four-star review response examples

Four stars is a compliment with a footnote. The trap is answering only the compliment and stepping over the footnote — the reader notices.

Below are real 4-star reviews left at London cafés, the reply that is actually published underneath each one today, and the reply our software writes for the same review. Business names, email addresses and reviewers' names are removed. Nothing here is invented.

Replies in this band are shorter and much cleaner than in the negative bands. The risk here is not legal, it is sameness: four-star replies are where template language multiplies.

Great location and amazing venue- it’s so relaxed and chilled inside. Friendly staff. We walked in without a booking on a Thursday and it was easy to get seated. The food is good, but the portions are small for the price. I would go back but there are also cheaper French restaurants on upper street.

Glad the room and the team made a good impression, and that a walk-in on a Thursday worked out. On portions, we do pitch them deliberately — quality of ingredient over volume — though we take the point that value is in the eye of the person paying.

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They offered me a sample slice of cake when studying in the coffee shop. I am not the biggest fan of Ole&———’s food overall, but the coffee and cookie I purchased were decently tasty. There are two floors and plenty of space to study or work, but not too many outlets available for charging devices.

Hi ———Pinto, We appreciate your feedback about the outlets and will pass your note to the team to see what we can improve.

The sample slice is exactly the kind of thing we encourage — glad it came through on the day. On the outlets, it is a fair point; we are aware the provision is limited relative to the space, and it is something we continue to look at.
