Coffee is the subject a café is allowed to know more about than the reviewer. It is also the subject where most replies say the least — a thank-you where a sentence about the roast would have done more.

The guy served his mates before us after we had already paid. The coffee tasted over roasted and extremely bitter, had to throw my latte in the bin. Latte art and place was cute. ——— be back though

Thank you for this detailed feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that you had such a negative experience. We sincerely, ——— the staff member served his friends before you after payment. We want to interact warmly with every guest, and we deeply apologize if this came across as prioritizing other guests—that is completely unacceptable and not our intention. We are also disappointed to hear the latte was bitter and tasted over-roasted. We keep our coffee standards incredibly high by constantly re-dialing our espresso throughout the day to ensure perfect quality, and it's clear we failed here. We would love the chance to apologize and show you our true quality. Please contact ——— so we can arrange for you to come back and enjoy a coffee on the house. We hope to hear from you soon. ——— - General Manager.

A latte should be sweet and smooth — if it reads as bitter, the shot has likely been pulled too long or the milk wasn't quite hot enough to balance it. That's not a matter of taste; two people ordering the same drink should get the same result. On the queue: we'd want to know more about what happened there.

the review★★

I have been here twice with mixed experiences. The pastries are very good, I had an almond croissaint and it was really nice & felt like good value. Both times however I have been disappointed with the quality of coffee and didn't feel especially welcomed by the staff. I can also understand having a no laptop policy at weekends when you are busy, but being told I cannot use my laptop at mid day on a thursday when I was the only person in there & had specifically gone there to work is pretty ridiculous.

I have noted your feedback about not being made to feel particularly welcome and i will bring this up with the team. This is an area we pride ourselves on and an important elment of what I am trying to achieve at COTC. I’m so sorry this was not the case for you. ——— regarding the patio policy. That is all my fault entirely. IWe want ——— to be a social space and a n escape from work and study demands. I ask all my staff to enforce this policy so as to be fair and consistent to everyone even if we are quiet. Please do email me at ——— and I will get a voucher sent out to you. Many thanks ———îm

The laptop policy applies through the week as well as at weekends — that is worth making clearer on the way in, and we take the point. On the coffee, two visits is enough to form a view, and we'd rather know what fell short than not.
